The school of Civil and Traffic Engineering of GDUT is composed of four first-level disciplines: Civil Engineering, Mechanics, Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology, and Transportation Engineering. Civil engineering is one of the key disciplines in Guangdong province.

There are 130 staff members in the school, including 103 full-time teachers, 20 professors, 40 associate professors, 1 doctoral supervisor and 44 teachers with doctoral degree. The school consists of the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Urban Public Facilities, the Department of Road and Bridge and Transportation, the Department of Engineering Management, the Department of Surveying and Mapping Engineering, Research Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, Research Institute of Engineering Mechanics, and Experimental Center.

The school offers 8 undergraduate programs of Civil Engineering, Road Bridge and River Crossing Engineering, Urban Underground Space Engineering, Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering, Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering, Engineering Management, Surveying and Mapping Engineering, Traffic and Transportation. There are more than 3500 undergraduates in the school.

The School has the right to grant doctorate degree in the second-level discipline of Civil Materials and Engineering, and the right to grant master's degree in the first-level discipline of Civil Engineering and seven second-level disciplines of Engineering Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Municipal Engineering, Bridge and Tunnel Engineering,HeatingandGasSupplyandVentilation and Air Conditioning Engineering ,and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering and Protection Engineering . The School has the right to grant master's degree of Construction and Civil Engineering and Professional Master’s Degree of Engineering Management. There are more than 300 postgraduate students in the school.

The Civil Engineering major is a national characteristic major and a famous brand major in Guangdong Province. The school has built National Engineering Practice Education Center, National Civil Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Guangdong Civil Engineering Technology Research Center for Construction Industry, Civil Engineering Technology Engineering Research Center of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Province Civil Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for ordinary universities, Engineering Mechanics Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for ordinary universities in Guangdong Province, Guangdong University International Cooperation Innovation Platform, Joint Research Center for High Performance Structures and MaterialsofGuangdong University of TechnologyandHong Kong Polytechnic University And other teaching and research platforms.

In recent three years, the school has undertaken more than 30 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, having won more than 10 provincial or municipal awards in the area of science and technology and obtained more than 50 technology patents. It has hosted two international conferences and numerous domestic conferences, with a research expenditure of more than 50 million yuan.
