The PhD degree program in Civil Materials and Engineering (0805Z2) relies on the key disciplines of civil engineering in Guangdong Province. The key laboratory of high-performance new structures and building materials in universities in Guangdong Province and the international cooperation and innovation platform for universities in Guangdong Province: Guangdong University of Technology-The Hong Kong Polytechnic University High-performance Structure Joint Research Center with Materials and 3 Engineering Research Centers in Guangdong Province: Guangdong Civil Engineering Technology Research Center; Guangdong High Performance New Building Materials Engineering Technology Research Center; Guangdong Structural Safety Control Engineering Technology Research Center. "Civil Engineering" was selected as a national first-class professional construction, and has 4 national-level teaching platforms including "National Civil Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center", "National Engineering Practice Education Center", and "Civil Engineering National Featured Specialty".

There are currently 7 doctoral supervisors in the degree program, all of whom have overseas study experience. In the past 5 years, they have presided over 13 national-level projects, over 50 million research funding, published more than 80 high-level SCI papers, and won 5 awards of provincial/ ministerial level or above.

The subject is based on the basic theories and key issues in the field of civil engineering construction in Guangdong. It carries out researches with regional characteristics in South China. It mainly focuses on new structures and new material design theories and methods, and studies new building structure systems, new building material structures, and ecology. Building energy-saving new materials and new structures, etc. Features and advantages have been formed in new composite material structure theory and performance research of high-performance concrete materials. The PhD program in civil materials and engineering currently has an experimental area of more than 5,000 square meters, with large-scale MTS pseudo-dynamic system, large-scale marine environment dry and wet cycle system, MTS fatigue test system, large-tonnage long column testing machine, high-performance material testing machine, real three A batch of high-level experimental equipment such as axis instrument and high-performance computing server.

土木材料与工程(0805Z2)博士学位点依托广东省优势重点学科土木工程,建设有广东省高校高性能新型结构与建筑材料重点实验室、广东省高校国际合作创新平台:广工-香港理工高性能结构与材料联合研究中心、3个广东省工程研究中心:广东省土木工程技术研究中心;广东省高性能新型建筑材料工程技术研究中心;广东省结构安全控制工程技术研究中心。“土木工程”入选国家一流专业建设,并拥有“国家级土木工程实验教学示范中心”、“国家级工程实践教育中心”、“土木工程国家级特色专业”等4个国家级教学平台。

学位点目前有7名博士生导师,均具有海外留学经历,近5年主持国家级项目13项,科研经费5000余万,发表高水平SCI论文80余篇,获得省部级以上奖励5项。

学科以广东土木工程建设领域的基础理论及关键问题研究为基础,开展富有华南地区区域特色的研究,主要围绕新型结构及新材料设计理论及方法,研究建筑结构新体系、新型建筑材料结构、生态建筑节能新材料与新结构等。在新型复合材料结构理论、高性能混凝土材料性能研究等方面形成了特色和优势。土木材料与工程博士学位点目前实验面积5000余平方米,拥有大型MTS拟动力系统、大型海洋环境干湿循环系统、MTS疲劳实验系统、大吨位长柱试验机、高性能材料试验机、真三轴仪、高性能计算服务器等一批高水平实验设备。
