In order to improve freshmen’s adaptability to university life and deepen freshmen’s comprehensive understanding of the school’s work, in the first week of enrollment, our school held a series of freshmen entrance education activities such as the freshmen’s parent meeting, the first class meeting, the temporary class cadre plenary meeting, and the first grade meeting about epidemic prevention and control, safety education and morning and evening self-study system, "Student Handbook" collective learning and style of study and test education meeting, student management and service work, professional introduction, enrollment education, mental health and youth health, introduction to the process of joining the party and recruitment enlistment publicity and educational administration work and so on.
On the afternoon of September 13th, ourschoolheld an online parent meeting. Dean Liu Feng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Chen Songjian, and Deputy Dean He Jianian exchanged views with parents on school history and school conditions, student work, and civil engineering major divisions.
On the morning of September 14, our school held the first class meeting for freshmen. The class teachers organized the classmates to meet, elect temporary class cadres, collect documents, party and league relations and other materials, and held the first class meeting for epidemic prevention and control. Afterwards, ourschoolheld a plenary meeting of temporary class cadres which focused on how to be aschoolclass cadre and conducted training and exchanges for new student cadres. In the afternoon, our school held the first grade conference. To deepened freshmen’s understanding of school rules and disciplines, the counselor Li Chengyao led the freshmen to study the "Student Handbook" and explained the "Regulations on the Management of Students in Ordinaryschools and Universities", "Regulations on the Management of Students in Guangdong University of Technology", as well as the management of student status, credit system, degree awarding, student discipline measures, appeal and handling measures, attendance management measures, comprehensive quality assessment implementation measures. After that, the counselor Xie Zetao taught the new students a vivid safety education course in terms of the importance of safety, anti-theft tips, anti-fraud "eight commons, four essentials", and epidemic prevention and control.
On the morning of September 15, ourschoolheld a professional introduction meeting, in which the principals and senior teachers of each major introduced the specific situation of each major to the freshmen in detail from the professional background and history, professional characteristics, professional status, faculty strength, talent training requirements, employment prospects and other aspects. At the meeting, the teachers in charge of the major interacted with the students and actively answered the questions of the freshmen. In the afternoon, Chen Songjian, the deputy secretary of the Party Committee of our school, gave a special party lesson on "Actively Approaching the Party Organization and Pursuing the Meaning of Life" for the freshmen and shared his thoughts and experiences with the students of the relationship between the Communist Youth League of China and the Communist Party of China, the brief history of the development of the Communist Party of China, and the success secrets of the Communist Party of China, the power of faith, and moving closer to the party organization actively. Secretary Chen combined with the characteristics of civil engineering, using current political hotspots, historical allusions, and deeds of advanced figures to teach freshmen that it is whatschoolstudents should pursue to establish communist ideals and beliefs, and encourage students to strengthen theoretical study, improve political literacy, and strive to become a glorious member of the Chinese Communist Party.
On the morning of September 17, Wen Ronghua, a teacher from the School's Mental Health Center, gave a lecture on the mental health of freshmen with the theme of "Free Yourself and Grow from the Heart".She introduced the concept of mental health and common abnormal psychology in detail and provided many effective methods for how to adapt to university life. Subsequently, teacher Li Chengyao, the party building organizer, emphasized to the students the importance of the standardization of party membership procedures and explained the party membership process in detail providing an effective way for freshmen to move closer to the party organization. Counselor Xie Zetao introduced the relevant policies for enlistment.
On the morning of September 18th, counselors Li Chengyao and Xie Zetao introduced the student management and service work of the school andschool, focusing on the functional departments closely related to the students and the management service information systems . Subsequently, the academic staff Hu Hongying and Chen Ziqing also introduced to the students daily management and service matters including course selection, student status information, double degrees, double majors, minors, major change, delayed examination, make-up exams, and examination violations.
The successful convocation of this freshman series of lectures has enhanced the freshmen's cognition of the school's educational administration, student management,schoolmajor setting, party membership process and other aspects. I believe that new students of grade 2020 will integrate intoschoollife as soon as possible, cultivate a healthy and upward attitude, and create their own wonderful life.
